Flora of the Buffalo National River

with emphasis on on sedges and the genus Carex

(revised March 5, 2008)

The Buffalo National River has started an "All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory". My interest started with the genus Carex but has expanded to include both non-vascular and vascular plants. The Park compiles data, and has its own herbarium. I hope to visit several botanically significant areas in the park for the next few years. See the June 1998 issue of the journal Castanea for my paper on Carex sedges of the Park.

Site of Carex normalis? formerly considered Carex buffaloensis ined. (that is, we thought incorrectly it was an undescribed species). Look for tall grassy looking plant above and to the right of the hat. Also photo of an Arkansas sunset.
